TasPorts has confirmed the appointment of Rob Phillips as the new Devonport Airport General

TasPorts has confirmed the appointment of Rob Phillips as the new Devonport Airport General Manager.

Mr Phillips arrival comes as TasPorts puts its focus on the Devonport Airport Master Plan, which was launched in 2021.

TasPorts Chief Executive Officer, Anthony Donald, said the port authority was pleased to appoint Mr Phillips, who began work in February.

“Mr Phillips brings a strong level of experience and expertise to the job.

“Specifically, as a Project Director for the Adelaide Airport Mr Phillips played a key role supporting major capital projects and best practice security and screening while as Head of Terminal Operations with Northern Territory Ports he provided leadership across operational and security teams delivering continuous improvement in security, safety, operations and customer service.”

Mr Phillip’s career spanned aviation operations, development, emergency planning, safety and security.

“He has a passion for leading people, culture and safety initiatives and will focus on enhancing customer and airline satisfaction, compliance, safety and security, and driving airside business development,” Mr Donald said.

Mr Phillips said the Devonport community had been very welcoming and the Devonport Airport presented an exciting opportunity to support the region’s growth and development.

“This will be achieved through the implementation of the Devonport Airport Master Plan, which focuses on continued support of services and safety for existing customers, while unlocking its potential as a key tourism and commerce gateway to Tasmania’s North-West and Cradle Coast region,” Mr Phillips said.

“The Devonport Airport Master Plan prioritises future land use opportunities for aviation activities identified airside precincts, including a runway extension as well as non-aviation activities for the site, including a terminal precinct and passenger terminal upgrades, as well as commercial, tourism and recreational opportunities.”

TasPorts had already successfully supported the re-establishment of a second carrier at the airport with Regional Air Express (REX) returning in August 2022 adding additional capacity for both the business and leisure traveller to access the North-West region.
